Add servers to the cluster

Procedure 5 of 9 of creating the application server cluster in Enterprise Manager.

In this procedure, you add the remaining (non-primary) servers to the application server cluster.

Before you begin

  • A server you add must have the same server roles installed as the other servers in the cluster. The server roles must also be of the same software version as the server roles on the other servers in the cluster.

  • A server cannot be involved in any kind of redundant relationship with another server in the environment. Specifically, the server cannot be part of either a Secondary Role relationship or an IP extension cluster.

Procedure

  1. Go to System Management Module that allows performing suite-wide system management activities from a single, Web-based application, the Enterprise Manager.. Under Enterprise, select Settings.

  2. In the Installations tree (left pane), select the Server Cluster node to which you want to add the server

  3. Click Create Installations.

  4. Complete these fields on the New Server screen for the application server you are adding to the cluster.

    • Name - Type a name for the server. This name is at your discretion.

    • Description (optional) - Type a description for the server.

    • Server Name - Enter the host name, FQDN, or IP address of the server.

    • Port Number - Enter the port on which the server listens for HTTP connections. Default is 80.

    • HTTPS Port Number - Enter the port on which the server listens for HTTPS connections. Default is 443.

    • HTTP Alias - Specify the HTTP address of the load-balancing device that is used to distribute user connections to the servers in the cluster. (Do not connect the server to the load balancing device yet.)

    • Blocked - Do not select this check box.

    • Primary - Do not select this check box

  5. Click Save.

  6. The Pending Messages icon appears while Enterprise Manager adds the server to the cluster. Wait for the Pending Messages icon Pending Messages icon to disappear before continuing to the next step.

  7. Repeat steps 3 through 6 to add the next server to the server cluster.

Each server that you add to the cluster automatically assumes the configuration of the primary server in the cluster.
